**NOTE:I had a little issue with this today. If you install more than 30 fonts (yes, I have 100's to choose from), it may cause the app to crash. I had a chat with the developer and this was his advice. Keep it under 30, people, or you might run into some issues! Good luck!
I've been using some pretty cool apps on my iPhone. One that was recommended to me was Phonto. Phonto allows you to add text to pictures and even create a blank template (a .99 cents add-on). They recently released a new update that allows you to install your own fonts - OTF or TTF file types. So cool as I have hundreds of fonts that I have purchased from scrapnfonts.com, rhonnadesigns.com, houseof3.com (no longer available), and various free sites - dafont.com, losttype.com, fontsquirrel.com to name a few.
I thought I'd make a quick tutorial on how to get those fonts on your iPhone. Here it goes:
*MAC version:
1. Open iTunes. Connect iPhone for faster transfer of files.
2. Click on iPhone device.
3. Click on Apps section. Scroll down to File Sharing. Double Click on Phonto.
4. Click Add... button
5. Locate File directory for your Fonts on your computer.
[Your Home User Directory] (in my case Lindz) --> Library --> Fonts
6. Click on the font you want to add and Viola! Font of choice can now be used.
7. Sync iPhone to ensure changes.
Enjoy and I will try to get a version up for a PC soon.

ReplyDeleteNevermind. . I updated and it worked like a charm. Yay! Can't wait to start dolling up my instas. ;)
ReplyDeleteI love these Fonts!! Thank you for your awesome creativeness! I actually downloaded them from my PC on to my iPhone with no problem! Can't wait to use them!!!
ReplyDeleteFor anyone waiting for PC instructions...DON'T! These are exactly what you see on a PC windows using iTunes...Just make sure to extract your files so you are not uploading the compressed file. You want to extraxct them and just load up the .ttf file which is the font. I made that mistake first, but figured it out.
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to thank you for this tutorial and as Judy said, it works the same for a PC ... I love adding new fonts. Be blessed!

ReplyDeleteGreat tut. One question, do you know if I can add my own fonts right to phonto on my iPad? I don't have a Mac, so I don't know if I can do it via my PC. I just got the iPad, so I am a rookie!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Arlene - It should be the same for the PC as for above. Will look into it and let you know
ReplyDeleteAny suggestions on how to do this for the Android version of Phonto?
ReplyDeleteJody you can check out the help I found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.youthhr.phonto
ReplyDeleteInstructions for android:
How to install fonts
-------------------------------------
To install fonts, place the font files (***ttf or ***.otf) into the fonts folder, /[sdcard]/Phonto/fonts.
'Phonto' and 'fonts' folders will be created automatically after Phonto launched.
In addition to that, you can install fonts from file management app like ASTRO file manager.
1. Download font file from online. Google "FREE FONT".
2. Unzip if you downloaded zip file (***.zip).
3. Open font file (***ttf or ***.otf) in Phonto from file management app.
Dropbox http://db.tt/4RiIoRb7 allows you to easily share font files between PC and smartphone.
- Too many font files might cause the app to crash. You should reduce the number of font files as small as possible.
- If you download a font file from online as zip format (***.zip), you need to unzip it.
Is it possible to use phonto on a Mac computer ie. not iphone or ipad. I want to do my editing, just on a computer?
